Illinois Homeschool Issues

Karen Campbell invited me to speak at the annual Treasures of a Mother's Heart Retreat last fall.  The retreat and lunch were lovely, as well as the intelligent and kind company.  I had the pleasure of meeting Karen and other delightful, enlightened homeschoolers a couple of years ago.  This was brought abouthanks to our mutual acquaintance – now-retired Chicago Senator Maloney.

At the Retreat, I spoke about my family (passions), mostly revolving around homeschooling advocacy and alarming educational trends.  I sounded overly confident our Illinois legislative problems were beaten back.  We are facing some threats again.  Tomorrow, I'll head to Springfield for the Senate Education Committee Hearing and am hopeful we can drive back the agenda to push little ones into institutional environments and testing.

If you haven't seen Karen's blog and the information she gathers regarding the Patriarchy Movement, you must visit there, read, and listen to the podcasts.  Her work is a gift to the homeschooling community, along with the mentoring Karen does for many escaping this effort.  Karen also provides a Homeschooling 101 series on the Home Educating Family Association website.  I've learned much from her.

Karen's husband, Clay, puts the podcasts together and here is the one from the Mother's Heart Retreat regarding my family/homeschool concerns.
